Frequently Asked Questions
What cameras are compatible with Windows Hello?
To use this feature, your PC must have an infrared (IR) camera installed. These have been widely available in newer laptops and two-in-one devices in recent years, including those from Dell, Lenovo, and Asus. If you're not ready to buy a new PC, you can also buy a supported external webcam, such as the Brio 4K Pro from Logitech or the Stargazer from Razer.
How do I get Windows Hello to work with my webcam?
Once you're in the login options screen, you'll see the available Windows Hello options. If your system's webcam supports facial recognition, you'll see the option to configure it (the same is true if you have a supported fingerprint sensor). Click the "Configure" button and you're on your way.
Are all webcams compatible with Windows Hello?
Not all webcams or cameras are compatible with Windows Hello, as this feature requires a fairly sophisticated camera that can more accurately capture depth with near-infrared imaging.
How do I turn on Windows Hello if I can’t find a compatible camera?
- Go to Settings, click on Applications, and select Applications and Features.
- Then go to Advanced Features.
- Locate the Windows Hello Face option.
- If this option is not available, click Add Feature.
- Find the Windows Hello Face feature and install it on your device.
